Sometimes the simplest websites, are the most effective websites. As a web designer, I love just opening up a blank page, and creating something. Coding is addictive, and I love it.
As a web designer, I love just going back to the basics, and starting with a blank 1 Page Website. Funny enough, I do the same thing when I’m designing a Joomla, or WordPress Template. I hate buying commercial templates, or stock photography, because this just makes the end-result, feel so generic and fake.
I love being able to combine the different skills that I have, in a simple website like this. Everything from, drawing, designing, writing, video-editing, animation, music and etc. And coding, is the magic glue, that brings this all together.
When you spend as much time as I do on the internet, you begin to notice the same photography used all over the show. As a website visitor, I would prefer seeing real photos. By adding real photos, this just makes the website more authentic and trustworthy.
I think a lot of companies miss the point completely. Most of the websites that I come across, look like cheap brochures, with these fake images. A website should be a place for your company to connect with its customers. It should be a place where people can go, to see what happens behind the scenes.
Anyway, to get back to the 1 Page Website. Here is an example of a 1 page website that I built, http://www.durbanwebsites.co.za/ . It’s a simple site, and the call to action, is to click the button, and that’s it. Sometimes, this is all that you need, if you want a hassle-free website, that doesn’t require any databases, updates or changes.
You would be amazed, at how useful, even a 1 Page Website can be. Why spend thousands on a full online shop, when you can just upload a simple PDF catalog, or instructional video. Or, like in the example, I just used a video for decoration. I guess there is no limit as to what is possible. I all depends on what you are looking to achieve.
If I could give advice to anyone that is just starting out online, I would suggest a simple 1 Page Website, like this. Don’t waste any time or money on developing an over-bloated website, until you know exactly what you are wanting to achieve.
